Your privacy is important to us, and we are committed to safeguarding your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data when you interact with our Site.

By using this Site, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of information when you interact with our Site:

Personal Information: When you sign up for lessons or courses, we collect your name, email address, and phone number.
Google Account Information: If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from your Google account.
Authentication Data: When you log in, we store authentication tokens in your browser's local storage to keep you signed in.
Technical Information: When you visit our Site, we automatically receive technical information such as your IP address, approximate location, device type, and browser type. This is standard server-log information that any website receives, and we use it to operate the Site, prevent abuse, and understand where our visitors come from.
Form Analytics: When you submit our new-student registration form, we record technical information about your submission — such as how long it took to complete, your device type, and your approximate location. We use this to improve our forms and to help protect the Site from automated abuse. This data is stored alongside your registration and is never sold or shared.
In-Progress Registrations: As you fill out our new-student registration form, we save your progress — including any contact details and answers you have entered — both in your browser (so you can return and finish later) and on our server. If you start the form but do not finish, this lets us understand where our forms can be improved, and may allow us to follow up with you directly to help you complete your registration. We never sell or share this information, and we do not use it for advertising. If you would prefer we not keep an unfinished registration, just let us know and we will delete it.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information collected to:

Provide and manage your access to lessons and courses.
Send automated notifications regarding account creation, lesson setup, and password recovery.
Send magic link sign-in emails when requested.
Improve your experience on the Site.

Third-Party Sharing

We do not sell or share your personal data with third-party advertisers or marketers. However, we use the following tools and services:

Supabase: Used for user authentication and data storage. Subject to the Supabase Privacy Policy.
Google OAuth: If you sign in with Google, your authentication is handled by Google. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
Amazon SES: Used to send transactional emails such as magic link sign-ins and password resets.
Cloudflare: Used for website hosting and security, including Turnstile, which runs invisibly to distinguish human visitors from bots and prevent abuse. Turnstile's data handling is described in Cloudflare's Turnstile Privacy Addendum.
YouTube Embedded Content: Videos on our Site are embedded using YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, which may still collect data if you interact with the video.
Stripe: Used to process payments for course purchases. We do not store your payment card details. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.

Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and browser storage to enhance your experience on the Site:

Authentication tokens are stored in your browser's local storage to keep you signed in.
Cloudflare Turnstile may set cookies to verify that you are a real user.
On the new-student registration page, we store a one-time timestamp in your browser's local storage to remember when you first visited (used in our form analytics — see above).
On the new-student registration page, we also save your in-progress answers in your browser's local storage so that if you reload or close the page, you can pick up where you left off. This draft is cleared from your browser once you finish the form.

We do not use Google Analytics, advertising trackers, or third-party analytics services. The only analytics we collect are the registration-form metrics described under "Information We Collect" (including unfinished registrations), stored in our own database and never shared.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access: Request a copy of the personal data we have on file.
Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
Deletion: Request that we delete your personal data from our systems. To make such a request, please contact us at scott@slomusiclessons.com.

Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy. Account data is retained while your account is active. You may request deletion of your data at any time.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access or misuse, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and secure authentication practices. However, no system can guarantee complete security, and we encourage you to take steps to protect your own information.

We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy at any time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
